Growth Mindset

At St Teresa's we are developing and embedding a Growth Mindset culture across the school.

People with a Growth Mindset know that intelligence is not fixed and that you can "grow" your intelligence. By contrast, people with a fixed mindset believe they are born with a certain amount of intelligence and that is with them for the rest of their lives.

Our aim is to help our pupils to develop a Growth Mindset and for them to understand that it takes effort, practice and time to grow their intelligence. The Growth Mindset values we teach our pupils include:

  • Grit, resilience and perseverance - learning from mistakes
  • Independence
  • Curiosity and open-mindedness
  • Creativity, using imagination and taking risks in learning
  • Adapting, thinking flexibly and learning from feedback

"Pupils like attending St Teresa's. Pupils feel happy and safe. Teachers have high expectations of what pupils can achieve. Staff have created a culture where pupils confidently try again when they have made mistakes." (Ofsted January 2020)
